> SlowTrav > Italy > Trip Planning What Time of Year to Go to ItalyPauline Kenny Tuscany and UmbriaI think the best time is from April to October. It can be hot enough for swimming as early as the beginning of June and as late as the end of September. We spent the first two weeks of June 2000 in a house in Celle sul Rigo in Tuscany and swam in the pool most days. We spent the last two weeks of September 1999 (during the grape harvest) in Argiano, an estate near Siena, and swam most days. We have also had days of rain in early September, late May, mid-October. We spent a couple of weeks in mid-October 2000 in Italy and it was cold and overcast most of the time. It was an unusually early winter that year. Consider going off season to the larger cities (Florence, Rome) to see the art in less crowded situations. VeniceVenice in August can be full of mosquitoes, also hot and humid. |
