A charming cafe in the heart of Foligno

Yes, we agree with the other reviewer: a great charming cafe the kind one only hopes to find but does not. The only one that comes near is the beautiful Liberty style cafe in the extraordinarily great Renaissance piazza of Ascoli Piceno.

Here in Foligno we have a cafe situated in an old "drogeria": in fact, not long ago, we bought sausage casing here when it still functioned as that. All the old wooden pharmacy drawers have been kept and make for a stunning background setting to delicious traditional and non-traditional treats.

The only negative is the outdoor seating: this point in the piazza gets strong winds in the cool summer evenings and it's not the best for sitting outdoors. But we were so charmed by and happy to find such a place in Umbria, that we try to frequent it whenever possible.

Foligno is also a great place to shop: very good clothing stores. Lovely Liberty style villas. An underrated city, it has largely been restored "thanks" to the earthquake of several years ago and has never looked better.

This is not a restaurant, but one of our favorite caffes in Umbria.

Directions: The main piazza in Foligno

We love going to Foligno because it is more like a real town. Although we love going to the beautiful hilltowns of Umbria, at the end of the day, we always like to come to Foligno because it is flat, parking is easy, the shopping is good and the passaggiata is very active.

The Antico Caffe is in the center of the main piazza and a great place for a coffee, glass of wine, a snack and to people watch. The interior is beautiful and they have a nice selection of wine, oils, spices, candy, etc.
