This wine bar is in Campo San Giacomo dell’Orio, my favorite campo in Venice. Al Prosecco has a very nice outdoor seating area (and no table charge for sitting down). It’s a great place to sit and watch life go on in a real Venetian neighborhood with very few tourists. There is an indoor dining room that is also nice. I’ve had some amazing food here, including the best salad I have ever had in my life. It was arugula with smoked salmon, swordfish and tuna; it also had cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, tiny strips of seaweed and yellow pansies on top. It was delicious; it’s also the only salad I have ever had in Italy that came with the dressing already on it – a great balsamic vinaigrette that was so good. I have also had great panini here and wonderful cheese plates that come with mostarda (spicy pear preserves). And on Saturday nights at Al Prosecco, they have oysters – the most incredible oysters I have ever had. They are perfect. I have always loved oysters and the ones I’ve had here have spoiled me forever because the ones in the U.S. are nowhere near as good as these are. An Italian man I met here told me that he comes for oysters every week and that he calls ahead to reserve them because they usually run out. There isn’t a menu, but the staff will let you know what they have – the owners are very nice, and it’s just a fun place to hang out in Venice.
