A casual and fun place with great pizza

I loved this place! I went here on a Friday night and had such a great dinner. Wonderful pizza but I also loved the atmosphere – bustling and fun with people of all ages having a great time. Nice staff too. There are many other choices on the menu besides pizza, but that seemed to be what most people were having.

I had pizza with gorgonzola and radicchio, house wine and water, and a sgroppino for dessert. At 18 euro, this was the best bargain of my trip.

Lovely outdoor eating area under trailing wisteria; a friendly, informal place with an excellent value menu del giorno. Pizzas, as well.

This was my first visit here, but I'd read good reviews in both "Chow! Venice" and "Venice Osterie" - and they were absolutely right! It was Sunday lunch, and the gorgeous gravel-strewn, wisteria-shaded courtyard was pretty full with groups of all sizes and all ages.

I was attracted by the Menu del Giorno, at €16, including pane e coperto. Spaghetti al Nono Risorto was with cozze, vongole and a few bits of seppie, all in a richly flavoured tomato-garlic-chilli-fishy sauce. Very good indeed.

The Seppie alla Venexiana con Polenta were delicious. Tender seppie (cuttlefish), in a velvety, inky-black sauce, with a piece of grilled polenta.

After a late night watchinng the fireworks, I thought an after-lunch sleep would be a good idea, so chose a Sgroppino from the dessert menu. Coffee never keeps me awake, so I had one of those, too. With a quartino of red (very Venetian, slightly fizzy) and water, the total was a very reasonable €25.
