Simple, well prepared food in a very pleasant section of Santa Croce.

Directions: Follow Calle Larga from the NE corner of Campo S. Giacomo dell'Orio. It's just across from La Zucca.

This was our first full day of our trip and we were looking for a simple and light canal-side meal. We were 2 adults and 2 teenagers.

We started with the mixed fish antipasto and the kids split a cured meat platter. Both were excellent. My wife and I particularly liked the fresh anchovy. We were feeling jet-lagged and didn't want to sit for 2 or more hours so we opted to each get a single course for our main meal rather than both primo and secondo. My son had veal escalope in a Marsala sauce while the rest of us had pasta. I tasted the veal and it was tender and very tasty.

My daughter liked her pasta but wasn't all that fond of the effort in dealing with the scampi. My wife had a similar dish but with both scampi and zucchini flowers. My pasta was with garlic and red pepper flakes. Simple and good; just what I wanted. My wife and I also had house salads. The kids had soft drinks while we split a mezzo litro di vino rosso della casa. I don't know specifically what the wine was but it was medium bodied, not overly dry and we both liked it a lot. One of our favorite house wines of our entire trip. We finished the meal with 2 or 3 cups of mixed fruit.

The service and pacing of the meal were very good. By the time we were done at 9 PM, people were waiting for tables. Final cost: 65 euros. It would have been over 100 euros if we had gone for both primi and secondi.

**Memorable moment: when my daughter accidentally flung her fork into the canal.
