A real find: a little gem with an unlikely name. One of the most enjoyable and relaxed food experiences in the week we spent around Lake Como.

This is a restaurant almost hidden behind the arcades which connect Teatro Sociale, the Opera of Como, with the Duomo. The name is uninspiring and so is the entrance, with its huge posters of vaudeville and opera shows. The kitchen is an extension of the dining room and at the other end there is a café-bar.

We are greeted graciously, shown to a very nice table and have an excellent meal, surrounded by local patrons and treated just like them. We have consommé, persico fritto, gnocchi a burro i salvia, carpaccio di vitello con fritto di verdura, un quartino di rosso, coffee and tisana, all for Euro32, service and extra tip included.

One of the most enjoyable and relaxed food experiences in the week we spent around Lake Como.
