Giudecca: Altanella

Calle delle Erbe

Closing day: Monday, Tuesday

Reviewed by: rkorchid from NH, review #2808

When: 2007

Delightful canal-side restaurant specializing in fish.

Directions: On a side canal on the Giudecca about halfway between the Redentore and Palanca vaporetto stops. Take the sottoportego at the bottom of the metal bridge rather than the long way around that my GPS sent me.

Three of us had two delicious lunches here in October of 2007. We learned of the restaurant from a segment on the Today Show featuring the Scotto family (NYC restaurateurs)and there summer vacation.

Highlight dishes include boiled shrimp, farfalle with mussels and peppers, gnocchi with cuttlefish, frito misto, and sarde e saor.

Our meals typically included water, house wine, and grappa. Often an appetizer and a secondi. Sometimes dessert.

We paid 110 euro for one meal and 125 euro for the second when we all had dessert.

Reservations for Sunday lunch in the charming garden are essential.
