On the western side of Lago di Garda we happened into this terrific trattoria specializing in seafood, some of it right from the lake. It turned out to be one of those memorable experiences where you just end up in a restaurant and have a thoroughly enjoyable experience. In summer there is a delightful garden in which to eat that’s right next to the lakefront. The menu is simple and food is very well-prepared by chef/owner Rino Pollini and his family. Since this was our last big meal in Italy, we decided to have a few courses – a well-priced tasting menu worked for us. Mixed antipasti, that you could just go up to the table and select yourself, were excellent, as was a seafood risotto, a grilled lake fish of which I can’t remember the name and some very good desserts. We had a local Pinot Grigio that was likewise good. After the meal, Rino engaged us in conversation (he loves to talk and we loved listening) about Salò, the area, climate, food, history, patterns of tourism (they get mostly German and Austrian vacationers there). He even offered to take us out in his boat on the lake in order to show us some of the things he was talking about. Unfortunately we couldn’t take him up on his offer but we told him we’d take a rain check. A very pleasurable lunch. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
