We wanted a pizza and Antico Capon did a good job. We shared an argula & tomato salad. It was good and looked a lot better than the insalta mista being served to other tables. We also had a funghi pizza, which was quite good. We had a decent red wine. The prices were reasonable and we enjoyed the food and setting. Don't expect too much and you probably won't be disappointed. Reviewed by: tim from Canada, review #2382 When: 2007
The setting and the food at Antico Capon are both fine but the way we were treated left a bad taste in one's mouth. There are enough other restaurants in Venice that one should not have to put up with such treatment. Upon receiving our bill I noticed and questioned a service chjarge. Not a cover charge which I always expect. The waiter/ maitre d' told me it was a management decision and not for himself. As I was leaving, I noticed the chalkboard outside said servicio incluso. I called the waiter over an pointed it out to him and he then said that was for the food offered on the board only. Of course I was suspicious but had paid the bill. A few days later, I returned to the restaurant when another maitre d' was on hand and asked if servicio was incluso and he told me yes. I told him what had transpired and he looked surprised but that was all. As I said why go to the trouble. I feel sorry for the restaurant that they have hired dishonest staff but ultimately it is up to them to insure their customers are being treated fairly. I had a nice walk in the morning in the Dorsoduro area and ended up at Campo Margherita. There are a few places to dine in the Campo and this place had outdoor dining under umbrellas. Most of the diners were German and they were enjoying beers. I had a small lunch of spaghetti with pesto sauce and a mixed salad. The pasta was very good, but the salad was just okay: I hate iceberg lettuce. I had one glass of white wine. The place doesn't serve carafes of house wine so the waiter opened a bottle and just charged me 3.50 euros for the glass. At first the waiter didn't seem like he wanted to bother opening a bottle for me, but I patiently waited. €20 total. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
