Nice restaurant, great service.

Directions: Just off the Piazza Salvemini, in an arched alley that runs between two streets.

We thought it looked a little scary at first, the alley is dirty and there is shop across the way with people loitering in front that made us uncomfortable (it closed shortly after we arrived at 7:30). But we had a table inside which is bright and cheerful with old photos of the area and people, as well as old farm implements.

They didn't speak English here, and the menu was handwritten, but we figured everything out and really enjoyed our meal. We liked our waiter a lot - he gave us grappa at the end of the meal (perhaps because we had declined both café and dolci and it was just too early to end a fine meal ;-) ). We later learned that might not be such a special thing, but it was a nice surprise to us.

Our waiter brought some squares of yummy plain foccia with our water at the beginning. We had a bottle of the house red wine (they had a large selection of wines) that the waiter decanted without asking, and again started with the Tuscan antipasti. It was yummy, with a couple kinds of meats, and a milder cheese than the previous night. The bread brought out at this point was good and chewy with a good crust. For the primi piati, Bill had ravioli basilico. It wasn't particularly basil-y, but was quite nice and fresh with tomato and something spicy in it. I had an insalta mista that included rings of yellow pepper and good oil and vinegar. For the secondo Bill had a big filet of salmon that was very fresh and tender with a sauce of oil, tomato, red pepper corns, parsley… I had gnocchi pesto - fresh strong, oily pesto (I say oily because I make my pesto very thick - more like a dip) and tender tasty gnocchi. The meal was 118,000L.
