After a visit at the Palazzo Ducale, instead of proceeding to the Piazza San Marco and starting to look around for a bite, stay within the Palace, at the Bar Palazzo Ducale. We were served promptly and courteously with nice and filling sandwiches and excellent salads, good coffee, water. Although the bar, like all museum cafes, is a bit expensive (€25 for two including the well deserved tip), it offers a direct view to the Rio di Palazzo and the iron bars of Carcere, the lower prison, where criminals less notorious than Casanova were dying forgotten and whose cries gave name to the Ponte dei Sospiri, which is just to the right of the one-piece external glass door of the café! From time to time, benign gondolas float in front of the bar's guests, showing us their touring loads and disappear. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
