The Caffe is a bar, ristorante, pasticceria and above all else, a place to see and be seen.

The cafe is centrally located on the beautiful Piazza San Carlo. We decided to have a light lunch there on our 'museum' day as it was right around the corner from the Egyptian Museum. The interior is beautiful with its baroque splendour but we opted to eat on the patio where we could enjoy the views of the piazza.

The cafe has been in operation for more than 100 years - a sure sign that they are doing something right!

The clientele consisted of tourists and local businessmen - likely with an expense account. The meals here aren't inexpensive but you wouldn't expect budget food with views like this!

The service was quick, efficient and extremely professional. This was a good sign!

The food was quite good. In fact, we were both surprised at how good it was. We ordered two pasta dishes and split a salad. This with a bottle of wine and a bottle of sparkling water came to 51 euro. While this was our most expensive lunch in Italy during this trip we felt it was worth it because of the ambience, location, service, and the quality of the food.

After we ate we went inside and looked at the lovely interior - the glass cases of chocolates and desserts were amazing to see; this would definitely be a spot to go and hang out to enjoy a drink and dessert late in the evening.

If you didn't want to go for a full meal you can enjoy the Torino on the cheap - at both lunch and dinner, bar plates are loaded with bite-sized sandwiches, pizzas, and other snacks which can be enjoyed when you buy a drink. This has got to be one of Torino's more civilized customs!
