This trendy, tiny caffe is the place to be in Matera

Directions: Right on the main piazza

Sharp and sophisticated with umbrella-bedecked tables adorning the piazza, this little place is the big heart of the piazza caffe scene. Inside are a couple of little tables with cushioned chairs, with a few more tucked into the small upstairs loft. This is the place for a relaxed coffee or an evening aperitivo, which comes with some tasty tidbits alongside.

Excellent homemade gelato can be found here, kept in deep steel containers embedded in the counter rather than glass display cases. Flavors are posted on a chalkboard inside. Service is cordial and the atmosphere feels refined.
