San Gimignano: Caffetteria dell’Olmo

Piazza della Cisterna, San Gimignano

Reviewed by: Leslie from Australia, review #2301

When: 2006

The best cappuccino in San Gimignano.

Directions: In the Piazza della Cisterna, just to the right of Hotel La Cisterna.

The best cappuccino in San Gimignano – well, it’s actually really good! I would give it a ten out of ten rating. I don’t think they have a closing day which is just as well, as I like to have cappuccino and croissant standing at the bar, every morning during my stay in San Gimignano. This is at 7am before I go up to have buffet breakfast in my hotel with a view, La Cisterna – right next door.

They have a great table service outside with large shade umbrellas and views across the Piazza della Cisterna. There is a wide range of patisserie goods including delectable éclairs freshly delivered by 7am each morning. They also sell gelato and many types of panini.

A highlight of my trip this time was the cappuccino cup and saucer I bought from the waitress at the bar for €3.50 on my last morning there. It takes pride of place on my dresser, next to my more expensive Lavena Café in Venice cup.

It’s a top café, excellent cappuccino, croissants and pastries and very friendly service.
