A warm and welcoming restaurant with caring service

Directions: In Dorsoduro, between the Accademia and the Guggenheim, just South of Campo San Vio.

Cantinone Storico is a wonderful restaurant with good food, caring service and a very pleasant atmosphere. We have probably eaten here about 30 times in the last 7 years, and always had a good experience!

Alessandro the owner, and his two children are a delight and truly have their guest's enjoyment in mind. You can't go wrong with the risotto Terra Mare or the spaghetti con vongole. The fish is always of the highest quality and we also enjoy the veal scaloppine. Often they will have something special in that day, such as cape lunghe (razor clams) which we have had grilled and on another occasion served in a fish broth with toasts. Both presentations were divine!

They rarely give us a menu any longer, instead preferring to confer with us on our mood and anything special that they may have in.

In warm weather, they offer canal-side seating in what is a truly lovely neighborhood.

Highly recommended for good food, excellent service and pleasant atmosphere.

Cantinone Storico is on a canal near the Accademia Bridge, within sound of the bells of one of the churches. Lovely atmosphere. Excellent cooking. Very good presentation. Superior service.

I had tuna carpaccio, seafood risotto and sea bass. My wife had the mixed seafood antipasto, and we shared the cheese platter (gorgonzola, belle paese and reggiano parmesano).

With the antipasti, we had the house white wine - a nice Pinot Grigio. With dinner a bottle of Mercato Vendemenia - an assertive and slightly resinous white with a bit of fizz.

Ran out of wine when it was time for the cheese. Asked if the Mercato came by the glass. Waiter said "no". As we didn't want another full bottle, I asked for a 1/4 L of the house. Waiter made a face. Brought a bottle of the Mercato. Poured two glasses. No charge. I like people who know that dining is an art form.

Don't miss this restaurant!

Directions: Between the Accademia and the Guggenheim

This was our last evening in Venice and we wanted it to be special, but we were also quite exhausted from much sightseeing and didn't want to travel far, so the hotel recommended this place. I had been using the "Chow! Venice" dining guide with much success, but since our first choice for the evening from the book was closed we decided to go with the hotel's recommendation. We arrived to our canalside table and were very pleased; it was quiet but with just the right amount of action. I broke the carb-free regime and had a gnocchi with gorgonzola - oh my god, you have to die! It was ridiculously good! (Can you tell I've been off carbs for a while?) Other members had a wonderful veggie risotto, and also were thrilled. Dinner for 4 with 2 bottles of wine 184.

Delightful restaurant with outdoor seating, charming waiters and a charming chef. Good food too.

Directions: Next to the Hotel American along the San Vio Canal.

We ate outside ... delightful setting ... charming waiters ... charming chef who likes to talk with the customers and suggest dishes and kiss the women at the end of the meal ... very high cover charge of L7000 per person, which means that for 4 of us, we were charged $14 for bread! ... delicious risotto with fresh porcini mushrooms ... delicious lasagna (real Italian lasagna is more delicate than American lasagna and very good) ... OK but not great seafood dishes ... one of us had porcini and shrimp risotto but only found 2 or 3 tiny shrimps in the dish. On our second visit I made a joke about the cover charge to the chef, and it did not appear on the bill, but the check was surprisingly large anyway!
