The best gelato that I've had... in Calabria

Directions: Follow the Lungomare Matteotti (the promenade), with its vegetation and several Greek and Roman remains, described by D'Annunzio as `the most beautiful kilometer in Italy'. Make your way...or follow the line... to the end where the piazza is, to the Cesare Gelateria Kiosk.

When I was ready to go to Calabria Italy several years ago, my sister strongly recommended that I try the best gelato that she ever had in Reggio Calabria called Cesare. When I went to check out what she was talking about...I was blown away...by this little 6x6 kiosk where the lungomare & the piazza meet. Firstly, there was a long line to get in, but it moved fast and when I had the nucciola with whole hazelnut/in the brioche (like a bread roll) it was well... worth the wait and out of this world. I found out that Cesare's is family owned and been around for almost 90 years. (There are many old photos of Reggio Calabria's lungomare at the turn of the century posted on the wall). They are the only gelateria on Reggio's lungomare. I heard the city will not allow any new construction on the lungomare. Cesare has a choice of about 20-30 flavors in various sizes the price range was from 1.50 - 3.50 Euro. Because of the brisk business their gelato is always fresh and their helpings are huge.
