A romantic venue for that special occasion. Expensive, but worth it.

We had 8 pm reservations for dinner at the Cipriani Terrace Restaurant and walked to their dock in St. Mark’s Square. Other couples joined us as we boarded Cipriani’s private launch. It gave one the feeling of being “rich and famous”. The captain whisked us away from the dock and we arrived at Giudecca Island in minutes, to what is perhaps the most romantic hotel/restaurant in all of Italy.

We walked through a well-manicured garden and met the maître d'hôtel’ who escorted us to a nice table at the Terrace Restaurant. Just imagine a serenely beautiful lagoon setting bedecked with flowers and surrounded by fountains, flowering trees and shrubs--we were there.

Our waiter poured two glasses of chilled Prosecco—a nice touch. I started with an Italian vegetable soup; the croutons were flavored with thyme. My wife had Cipriani’s onion soup au gratin, a house specialty that was amazing. This was followed with sautéed veal medallions and baby artichokes Venetian style for her and sautéed fillet of beef and stewed shallots with “pimento sauce”, au gratin for me. We split a salad. Our wine was a fabulous Fratta cabernet from the Veneto region—a delicious accompaniment! We finished with gelato Cipriani with cappuccino and espresso.

Our dinner was superb. We paid 281 euros for this splurge but it was our anniversary night and we were very happy! Highly recommended.
