Four of us had an early lunch on October 30, 2010. My husband and I each had sausage in different dishes (one with pasta, one with beans) and shared a panna cotta. The others did not have either of these items. Around 10 pm, we began experiencing classic symptoms of food poisoning and spent the remainder of the night taking turns in the bathroom. I recovered faster than my husband, but still spent 24 hours in bed. It took several days before he could eat more than soup and crackers. I sent a message to the restaurant via their website to alert them to the problem. I never received a response. We will not return. While I am sure that all food establishments must have things like this happen from time-to-time, the lack of response indicated a real lack of caring. Enoteca Boccadama is located in the magnficent Piazza Santa Croce, and was just downstairs from our vacation rental apartment. The wine list is vast; after all, it is a wine bar. The surprise is the fresh and fabulous menu that is also served. I stopped for a solo lunch one day; the weather was warm enough for me to sit outside, facing the magnificent Basilica di Santa Croce. The waiter selected a refreshing white wine, a Tocai from Friuli, for me to enjoy. I started with a delicious salad of fresh greens, sliced pears, crumbled gorgonzola and toasted walnuts, dressed in a bit of sherry vinegar and delicious olive oil. Next, I had penne with broccoli; the broccoli had been cooked until it was soft and almost creamy, with olive oil and a bit of red pepper. The pasta was perfectly al dente. I noticed that Enoteca Boccadama was happy to accommodate a larger group; service was friendly and efficient. I wished I could have had one dinner here, in addition to my impromptu lunch! A perfect spot for a relaxing glass of wine with snacks, or a full-on meal, prepared with great care. Reviewed by: colleenk from MA, review #1276 When: 2005
Enotecca Boccadama was the restaurant Angie (tuscanartist) chose for our SlowTrav GTG. She chose very well for my first real lunch in Florence. This was a lovely, relaxed wine bar with very nice service. I had an insalata misto and knew I had arrived in Italy when I tasted the quality and freshness of the produce. My sister had a salad with tuna which was very good. I also had a terrific spicy pasta dish with a glass of Rosso Montalcino. I don't remember what everyone else had but it all looked good and everyone was happy. The staff was very accommodating of everyone having a seperate bill and paying at different times as we left. Highly recommended if you're in the Santa Croce area. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
