The restaurant is very, very classy. It is part of an atonishingly beautiful agriturismo in a great location. The cook, Riccardo, prepares both fish and meat.

Directions: Difficult to find, but the drive is rewarding. The restaurant is part of a breathtaking agriturismo. See map on website link in review.

I have known the agriturismo La Nuova Pievanella for years, but I had never had lunch or dinner at their restaurant. I am teaching Italian as a private tutor to one of their guests, and the lady invited my boyfriend and me for dinner yesterday evening. The first thing which came into my mind was to leave a review on SlowTrav!

First of all the place is simply incredibly beautiful. There is a breathtaking 360° view, a totally unspoilt natural environment, and a beautiful, beautiful farm. La Nuova Pievanella is honestly one of the most beautiful places I know.

The restaurant is beautiful and very classy. The tables have flowers, all the colors match. There are many candles and the service is excellent.

The food was a nice surprise. We had seafood and Marcel had meat. All was prepared in a very particular way, with nice portions which we could eat and enjoy instead of the usual huge plate of food which you never know how to finish.

The presentation of the food was great! All the food served is prepared with organic ingredients and it usually comes from the farm production itself.

As an aperitivo we were served prosecco and fresh, home- made bread with fresh butter and thyme. We had a tuna fish salad (real fish, not from a can!) as "antipasto", and Marcel had an orange and parmesan salad, with balsamic vinegar. As a "Primo", we had gnocchi alla romana with smoked tuna fish "carpaccio" on top and Marcel had gnocchi alla romana with a sauce of butter, cheese and herbs. As a "secondo" we had shrimp with zucchini and Marcel had spinach and pork meat with a sauce made out of aubergines. For dessert we were served apples cooked in amaretto accompanied with meringue and a delicious vinsanto of 1990 with cantuccini.

We drank excellent wine, both white and red. Alfio Carpini e Ursula Carpini-Dürrschmidt were two of the major producers of rosso di Montepulciano. They had two excellent farms there, il Conventino and La Casella, which they sold to start their activity at la Pievanella.

A 5 courses meal cost us 35 euros per person, which is not expensive at all considering the quality of the food, of the service, and the beauty of the place.

They have a website:Pievanella, and I highly recommend both the agriturismo and the restaurant.

It is important to book in advance because they only use fresh food. And although a dinner is a very pleasant event, during the day time it is possible to enjoy the beauty of the countryside.
