Fantastic home-grown food at an idylic locanda outside San Ginesio in the central Marche

Everything (even the wine) is grown and produced on-site at this fantastic agriturismo/restaurant in the hills outside the lovely Marche town of San Ginesio (Macerata Province). We did not stay in one of the rooms at il Casolare, but we had a fabulous dinner in late July with a group of Italian friends who were also friends of the owner.

Once we arrived, we were served course after course, one better than the next, starting with a wonderful salumi and grilled vegetable plate, followed by two or three terrific pasta dishes (including the best lasagna, ever) and the obligatory grilled meat course. And of course dessert and an endless supply of limoncello, grappa, etc. All the food was fantastically fresh and carefully prepared. The red and white house wines, both of which were produced on site, were perfectly matched to the food and were served in carafes that were refilled many times.

The cost for all this was scandalously low, but it's likely that we received a "friends and family" discount, so I'd rather not publish it. It would have been a bargain at several times what we were charged. I don't know if they serve lunch, but dinner requires reservations. Highly recommended. One of our most memorable meals in Italy, or anywhere else, for that matter.
