Wow! No menu: just sit and enjoy the luscious, fabulous feast that follows. Thanks Jim Zurer for recommending this tie for first-place lunch prize.

Directions: 15 minutes' drive from the Lamborghini factory museum in S. Agata Bolognese, if that's of interest.

This spacious, enclosed patio restaurant on a quiet farm estate is a very pleasant place to spend a few hours, surrounded by plants, old iron fireplaces, and big windows open to the lovely lawns and gardens between the restaurant and the azienda.

Our hostess warmly welcomed us and introduced herself in excellent English (and then introduced her elderly aunt, when she had to leave to pick up her children), thus making us feel very well looked after. She asked whether we'd like white or red wine, and naturale or frizzante water; after that, we relinquished all control of the terrific meal that followed, for this was a menu-free event.

First she brought out crescetti (sp?), hot little puffed triangles that were used to encompass bits of prosciutto, accompanied by delicious onions and artichokes agridolce; then we were served tortellini with ricotta and sage; then the main dish of meltingly tender pork cutlets with balsamico, insalata and roast potatoes on the side; then dessert! Zuppa inglese, and delectable meringue and almond cookies, nocino liquer and coffee on the side.

Panting slightly, we eventually very happily paid our €40 per person (cash only). That was for everything, including all the wine we drank - and we waddled away, no doubt silly smiles on our faces. A wonderful, indelible experience.
