Normandy Dude's HIGHEST POSSIBLE RECOMMENDATION. And I mean it.

Directions: A two-minute walk from the bottom of the famous steps. Go to the bottom famous stairway with the ceramic tiles. Look at the stairway. Now turn around so the stairway heads up behind you. At the first street turn right and walk about 50m. The restaurant is on your right.

On the outside you'd think it's a crumbling tenement, but walking in you'll take the marble staircase up to the second floor (third floor, to us Yanks) and you'll see that the word "Palazzo" is well-suited. Completely redecorated in 2000, there are trompe l'oeil paintings on the domed ceilings, beautiful ceramic tiled floors, immense spaces, luscious natural light and great food.

Great service. Great food. Great wine. And GREAT prices! The best bargain we had in Italy. An experience. Go there with an empty stomach. For a copious lunch for four hungry people (two courses each) and a bottle of wine I paid €40!

I hope one of my kids marries someone from that town so I can throw a big party in the place one day, and return time and time again with my kid's in-laws. (Slight exaggeration, I admit, but only slight!)
