Reasonably priced restaurant with a nice variety of foods on their menu.

I dined here three times, once for lunch and twice for dinner.

For lunch: Delicious pizza with sausage and a ¼ liter of merlot. €9. For dinner the same day: Tortellini with Gorgonzola and walnuts, which was excellent and rich - so rich I knew it would be the only time on my trip that I would have this dish - it was wonderful! Veal Milanese cutlet for my entree; 1/2 liter of white wine and bottled water. €22.

For the second dinner: I started with their buffalo mozzarella, which was the best I have ever had! I also had their Bucatini alla Matriciana (with red sauce, onions , and bacon); 1/4 liter of white wine and bottled water. Limoncello for an after dinner drink. €22.30.

This place is almost like a mom-n-pop restaurant where both tourists and Italians dine. The place fills up quickly but I was always able to get in without reservations. By the end of my meal the place was packed with Italians enjoying the meals they serve.

It's also a place a solo traveler can feel comfortable in. For my first night's dinner, I had gone to three restaurants and was turned away! It was early in the evening (7:30 - 8:00pm) and those restaurants were just about empty! A waiter at one of the restaurants (not a soul in the room), when I ordered the tortellini with gorgonzola, replied, "We have no tortellini tonight." What!!! This is Bologna: Everyone has tortellini! I saw it in every food window. I just got up and walked out. Thank goodness I had dined at il Portico that afternoon and knew the food was good.
