Directions: On the main road, north of Domaso near the grocery stores. 
The first stop in our 11 week stay in Italy was Domaso on Lake Como. We rented an apartment for a week. This was our first visit to Italy and after 7-1/2 months in France, we initially had some real culture shock. Our landlord at the Villa AnnaMaria (Giovanni Gotti or Gio59 on the Slow Travel message board) recommended Il Timone to us. It's a simple restaurant and pizzeria with a wood-fired oven, on the north side of Domaso, just on the edge of Lake Como. The view of the lake is mostly obscured by trees. The place seems to cater to local people, windsurfers staying at many campgrounds, and some tourists. There are two or three different dining areas and an outdoor area on the front near the road. We ended up eating here three times, once for lunch and twice for dinner. We probably would have eaten here even more if we had discovered it earlier in the week! The staff didn't speak English but was patient as we struggled with the Italian words and menu. Everyone was very friendly to our daughter. The pizza was very good and inexpensive (and available at lunchtime). For dinners we tried a variety of other menu items including a tomato salad, tortellini with cream sauce and ham, spaghetti, cotoletta alla Milanese, veal in a sauce. Everything we had here was good. For dessert we normally got gelato-- nothing particularly unique, but good too. Our bills ranged from 28 euro (lunch) to 40 euro. We would definitely eat here again!
