I had read enthusiastic reviews about this restaurant here on Slow Travel and was very anxious to try it. When we were in Montefalco, we decided to look at the menu and it was so extensive and special, we immediately decided to have lunch there. It was extremely difficult to choose from the vast array of dishes on the menu AND the incredibly long wine list!! On our first visit, we ordered the following (for three people): Bruschette miste, scamorzo tartufo (a melted cheese and tartufo concoction which transported me directly to heaven!), gnocchi sagrantino (which were good but not as great as the ones at Ottavius in Bevagna), excellent lasagna, a steak dish, mixed grilled vegetables, a fabulous gorgonzola, pear, pine nuts salad, Antonelli red wine, one portion of THE best tiramisu we ever tasted. Coffee and water rounded out the meal. In this restaurant we ordered the most food of any restaurant we visited and ended up paying the least (this meal was 75 euros). Add to that - these were the best two meals of our trip and ... you can't beat that. Our second meal was our last dinner in Umbria and we wanted it to be special so we returned. This time we were only two people and ordered the following: Bruschette miste, mozzarella bufala/bruschette (shared both dishes and they were wonderful), gnocchi, a gorgonzola, radicchio and pear concoction on special local bread which was just OK, an Antonelli Grecchetto wine which was fabulous (and since we did not finish the bottle, we were allowed to take it home with us - a custom not usually practiced in the USA so it was nice). Water and coffee. This meal was 35 euros. All the wait staff we encountered were efficient, smiling, polite and wonderful. They also knew better English here than other places. I complimented the owner after our second and last meal here about what good food at decent prices he had and he was extremely pleased and proud. For lunch we sat outside in the square and the weather was lovely. For dinner, the outdoor portion was not open and so we went downstairs to a small room for our meal. I was afraid it would be stuffy but it was just fine. There was not a lot of room, maybe for about 20 - 25 diners total. Very intimate and comfortable. I would return to this restaurant in a heartbeat and most highly recommend it to others. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
