We went to dinner at La Cantina. Another “wow” meal, especially the tagliata di manzo, a thinly-sliced beef tenderloin cooked rare and topped with rucola and a hint of EVOO. Mmmm tasty. This place was great €49 for 2 with a bottle of wine! Reviewed by: markholland from UK, review #1164 When: 2005
Directions: Just below the main piazza in Spello La Cantina was recommended by the rental agents. It is cozy and unpretentious with friendly service. The food is simple and all the better for it. The antipasti were excellent - truffled omelette, ham, salami, olives, polenta, and lentils. Pastas were good, and meats simply cooked and presented. We paid about €25 per head for 3 courses, coffee and wine. Highly recommended for simple food that is full of flavour. Reviewed by: Liz from Canada (moderator), review #596 When: 2003
Directions: On the main corso in Spello. This was recommended to us by the owner of our vacation rental in Bevagna and we were very thankful. We were some of the first diners - having arrived just before 8p.m. - so the large medieval room was rather empty and quiet, quickly enough, though, it filled up and came to life. I ordered the tortellini with gorgonzola and zucchini and it was very light and flavourful. Frank had a dish of grilled lamb covered in truffles, really you couldn't see the lamb for all the truffles! Everyone else enjoyed their meals as well.
