Directions: Approx. 100 meters before the Pienza's Porta Al Prato as coming from San Quirico d'Orcia. La Pergola is an “outside the wall” restaurant, located just outside Pienza on the road leading to San Quirico, approx. 100 meters from Porta Al Prato which is the gate entrance to the town. It is an informal place, recently taken over and operated by two young men with great hopes for the future. The setting is almost rustic, and the restaurant was not very busy in the evening of our visit. Since their cuisine is original and very representative of the flavours and aromas of the region, I hope they will do well: they deserve it. For the three of us, we had assortimento di salami toscani con crostino; pici con funghi porcini (a thick, hand-rolled pasta, cut in strips of varying length, in a porcini mushrooms sauce); bistecchina di cinghiale alla griglia con composta di fichi (grilled wild boar steak with a jam of figs); sformata al pecorino di Pienza, of course! (a pecorino cheese souflé); ravioli ripieni al pecorino con burro fuso e pepe nero (ravioli with pecorino, in melted butter with black pepper) ; vin santo and cantucci; ¼ l. of house wine, mineral water, coffee. The tally for three: 76 euro. Recommended. I just hope that the operators will find ways to attract attention to this very good restaurant and its location.
