You've just gotten off the train in Terontola after a long day sightseeing in Florence and do not feel like cooking back at the villa - why not eat right here?

Directions: Midway between Perugia and Cortona on the north shore of Lake Trasimeno. This ristorante/pizzeria is very close to the train station on Via XX Settembre

Located in Terontola extreme southern Tuscany, La Sirena is a smallish ristorante/pizzeria with a warm and friendly atmosphere. As you exit the train station, directly across is Via XX Settembre, which runs for a block or two to the North. La Sirena is situated on the right hand side of this street about midway down the first block.

The meals were inexpensive (under €60 for a party of 4, including wine), the wine list is adequate, the desserts were yummie - especially the tiramisu with mascarpone cheese (a specialty). The mascarpone is fresh and rich, like a sticky pudding (that's why it's in the tiramisu).

It is also mixed with anchovies and some herbs for you to spread it on your table bread, if you like. And they'll even put it in your coffee, which makes it seem that much more "special." So, you can't get away from it! Which is not a bad thing, unless you're counting calories, I guess.

Neopolitan-style pizza, which was good. Fish is a specialty, since this is right on Lake Trasimeno, but we didn't have any.

Plenty of locals, since this may be the only place open within walking distance of the train station after 8PM. Smiling service. Solid, simple food, straightforward dining experience (no pomp, no flair, no unnecessary flamboyance) and all at a very fair price. Well lit dining area, so it is not suited for romance or atmosphere or for leisurely quiet dining. It feels more like a "real" restaurant for the townspeople, rather than for the tourists stepping off the train.
