Yes, it is possible to have a bad meal in Italy.

This is what happens when you don't make a reservation in the little trattoria that looked great, then go touring too long and can't get in at lunchtime because everyone in town knows it's great. So, hungry children in tow, you find that every place that has good smells coming out and happy people inside is full. Is any food better than no food? We're still debating. Taverna dell Etrusco seems to specialize in soggy crostini with toppings from a jar, floppy pizzas drowning in as much low quality cheese as Domino's would throw on, and overcooked pasta topped with rancid-tasting pesto.
