Homey, inexpensive fare just a short detour from Potenza

Directions: Right off the SS 92 in the hills south of Potenza

This working farm with a traditional restaurant (along with a couple of guest rooms) serves abundant plates of regional specialties. Everything is produced on-site, brought brimming by bustling waiters trying to serve the teeming tables. The place is nearly always full, popular with Potentini and contadini alike.

The antipasto features a mixture of home-cured salami and prosciutto, fresh-made cheeses, grilled veggies, and the local delicacy known as peperoni cruschi (long sweet peppers that are dried in the sun and then fried in olive oil). Primi usually consist of homemade fresh pasta like little round orecchiette or dumpling-like strascinati topped with ragu (the local version of tomato sauce simmered with bits of lamb), sausage and truffle sauce, or funghi porcini. Secondi are primarily composed of grilled meats, lamb figures prominently but veal or pork are offered as well. Fresh seasonal vegetables are usually grilled or boiled and drizzled with olive oil. Everything is freshly and carefully prepared.

Prices are ridiculously low, making it worth a small detour if you find yourself in the area of Potenza.
