A summertime delight - delicious cuisine right on the water in tiny Atrani.

We chose Le Arcate for its location, not knowing anything about the food. We had tried other recommended restaurants in the area, and were looking for something different. What a surprise to find an excellent meal at this place, where we thought we'd perhaps have a pizza. Sitting right by the water, the lapping of the waves on the rocky beach was a background to one delicious dish after another.

We tried several of their specialties, such as the Antipastini "Costa d'Amalfi", a colorful handpainted dish divided into five sections, each holding a yummy seafood delight, such as a succulent big shrimp in homemade mayonaisse, a "mosaic" of octopus carpaccio, marinated anchovies, and a ceviche-like tomato-fish mixture. Another special was Paccheri (fat tubes of pasta) del Marinaio - with a spicy tomato/caper/olive sauce and swordfish. The risotto al mare was one of the best we've had. The bread basket was a treat too - with tiny little rings of anise bread, which we haven't had anywhere else.

We hadn't planned on dessert, but couldn't resist the lemon profiteroles, torta caprese, Atranesi pastry special and torta with pear and ricotta (there were four of us - we EACH had a dessert!)

Can't wait to go back - whatever the season!
