Centrally located, a great inexpensive restaurant that I keep going back to.

This inexpensive restaurant was recommended to us by Marco and Samantha who own the Hotel Dali. Itís between the Dali Hotel, where we once stayed for 8 nights, and the Duomo. We like to eat early and this restaurant opens at 6.30pm. The owner is friendly and every time we have been there the food has been great. I find it very restful and quite charming with low, tasteful music.

Itís a small restaurant and the tables are well spaced out with no crowding. The service is quick but never rushed. Half the diners seemed to be tourists and the rest locals. I have seen single diners there who were well looked after. We like to sit at the back near the kitchen and listen to the veal being pounded, then the wine hissing as itís poured into the hot frying pan.

In April 2005 my sister, her husband and I went for lunch. Leigh had a half litre of vino della casa Chianti for E6.30. Sherry and I shared acqua minerale for E1.60. We always enjoy their bread, and Sherry and I shared a contorno of patate fritte for E3.30. Leigh enjoyed his risotto ai funghi porcini at E7.50. Sherry had my usual, the scaloppini al limone for E9 and I had the petto di pollo ai agrumi at E9.80, which was a delicious chicken breast in an orange sauce. Coperto for three was E4.50. The meal totalled E42 for the three of us before tip (and we always leave a tip).

They also serve great pizzas which we had for lunch several times. I have a menu pasted into one of my trip journals which shows a good range of antipasti and quite a selection of salads and vegetables. I counted nineteen types of pasta and soups; a variety of dishes with chicken, fabulous veal, beef, and fish and several desserts.

We have eaten there at least twenty times, sometimes for lunch and other times for dinner. We look forward to eating there again on the next trip. Going to Lo Scudo has become a fun part of a visit to Florence for us. I canít wait to go back.
