Atmospheric locanda, better known for the restaurant than the rooms

Directions: Just west of San Trovaso on the Fondamenta Eremite

Montin is an old favorite of ours. The walls are covered in paintings from artists as payment for their meals. The service is somewhat old fashioned, not in a bad way, but discrete and professional.

I am quite fond of their fritto misto, but everything we have had is very good and reliable in terms of quality and freshness.

If you visit during nice weather, they have a beautiful vine covered patio where it is a real treat to dine.

For the two of us, we usually split an antipasto, two primi, one secondi, a couple of vegetable dishes as contorni, dessert, house wine, coffee and grappa for approximately 110 to 120 euros.

Pleasantly surprised!

This was another recommendations from the "Chow! Venice" dining guide that we thought we would try since it was in the neighbourhood. Earlier in the day we met up with someone who had lived in Venice for a number of years and didn't speak too highly of this restuarant, but since we had been quite pleased with all the recommendations in the book thus far we decided to live on the edge and give it a try ourselves.

The gardens in the rear of the restuarant are beautiful and were a nice surprise - now I knew where the picture on the cover of the "Chow! Venice" book was from!

I had a great seabass and Frank had gnocchi which was pretty good, too. My kids both had a big bowl of clams and mussels and they were very happy campers!

Service was great, especially after I showed them the book and said someone I knew wrote it! I had them take a picture of us all with the book proudly displayed! Dinner for 4 with wine €110.
