Medicina: Locanda Solarola

Reviewed by: teezee from USA, review #1299

When: 2005

Fresh and innovative but still wonderfully Italian.

Directions: A 14 from Bologna toward Medicina - turn right on Via Sao Paolo before you reach Medicina and follow the Locanda Solarola signs

Expect to spend money but be rewarded for your extravagance. In this lovely country setting, perhaps 20 minutes from Bologna, for about 100 euros a person you will meet new and innovative Italian cuisine lovingly conceived and delivered.

There are fixed price and a la carte choices, a fine wine list, and the restaurant is part of a lovely inn so you can, if you wish, stay the night and drink comfortably.

My husband, who could eat rabbit every night in Italy, declared the Locanda's rabbit the best he ever had and I found the risotto with truffles and celery to be outstanding.

This is great food that stays Italian while expanding the repertory.
