A lovely setting and delicious Tuscan fare, very popular with locals and less expensive than the famous Vipore restaurant just down the road.

Directions: Slightly northwest of Lucca, about 20 minutes' drive; call for directions

Our group of four (3 foreigners, one Lucca friend) had a wonderful Sunday lunch in this country restaurant. It looks out over the hills above Lucca, and was filled to capacity with Italian families on two floors. The menu is seasonal and emphasizes the specialties of the area, with lots of porcini mushrooms, game, good vegetables, and a quite extensive wine list with very modest price markups. Although the restaurant was very busy, the service was prompt but not hurried, and the kitchen accommodated the dietary restrictions of one of us by altering the preparation. Portions were hearty, but not overdone, but we passed up dessert because everyone was very full. Not to be denied, they brought a plate of sweets for us to sample, and of course, we managed to find space. In all, an authentic, delightful, relaxing Sunday lunch. Prices about 20-30 euro/person all inclusive.
