Inexpensive osteria specializing in authentic farinata baked in an open wood burning oven

Friendly restuarant in the historic center of Chiavari. Seating is somewhat communal with comfortable stools around tables. The menu changes daily but always includes their authentic farinata, a supersized pancake of chickpea flour and olive oil baked in a huge copper pan in an open, wood burning oven.

They have a reputation for being busy, but we were the first to arrive for lunch in mid October. Since ours was to be the first farinata of the day we had a 20-minute wait. We filled this with an order of vitello tonnato and fried anchovies and watching the grillman cook sausages on the open flames for his own lunch. By the time the farinata was baked several tables had filled with locals.

The farinata was hot and crispy and spoiled us for it anywhere else. It was gone by the time we left as almost every table ordered plates of the the 3-foot pancake. With a bottle of water, half a liter of white wine, and a shared serving of an autumn torte, the bill for two came to 40 euros.

The restaurant is a 5 to 10 minute walk from the train station and would be worth a short visit just for a delightful meal and authentic Ligurian experience.
