Great pizza, reasonable prices, nice atmosphere

Directions: Vaporetto: San Stae

This fairly new place is in Santa Croce, behind the church of Santa Maria Mater Domini. It was opened in August 2007 by the same people who own Muro Vino & Cucina in the Rialto Market area. Itís rather mod looking, with lots of chrome and black, but donít let that turn you off - the pizza was as good as any Iíve had anywhere in Venice or elsewhere.

Lots of other options besides pizza on the menu, including some salads that are more elaborate than most you see in Italy. Several pages of pizza choices - I had one with mozzarella, smoked ricotta, and arugula (fresh arugula piled on top, not cooked). Also water, house wine (a Veneto Merlot), and for dessert, a sgroppino that was very lemony and tart. The coperto was 1.50 and the total bill was 20 euro. I didnít make reservations Ė it was winter-time and I arrived early. By the time I left, the place was packed so reservations are probably a good idea in season or for dining later.
