We loved this place and ate there twice during our visit. Very authentic food.

This small place is located inside Mercato Centrale. You go to the counter to order, pick up your food, and sit at one of the tables across from the counter. It was always busy, and all of the food we tried was excellent and a very good value. Salads are very good, containing lettuce, tomato, lots of cheese, olives, and oil and vinegar dressing. One visit we had two salads, one tripe Sandwich(try it-it was wonderful!), one porchetta sandwich, and a small carafe of red wine for a total of 17.50 euro. On another visit we had pasta with ragu (4 euro), Ribolitta(4 euro), two salads(4 euro each), and wine for a total of 20.60 euro. The riboitta was a very thick, filling soup which I would recommend having if it is on the menu. Da Nerbone is very casual, with lots of locals, and provided us some of the best, authentic food we had in Florence.

Inexpensive sandwich in the fun and lively Mercato Centrale

For a cheap but very good sandwich, be sure to visit Nerbone on the first floor of the Central Market for their famous bollito (boiled beef), with tutte le salse (both the green and spicy red sauce). We hurried over after class one day as it is only open until 2 pm. After paying for your order at the cashier's first (if you can get his attention), you then get to watch your sandwich being made, dunked it its juice and slathered with spices. If you're lucky you can grab one of the few seats across from the counter. Nerbone also has a nice looking selection of pastas, salads and other meats but the bollito is its most famous offering. A bit on the fatty side but very good washed down with some house rosso. For €3 (the sandwich)-it's an experience hard to beat!
