Directions: When coming from the south exit at the Alberese exit. After you pass through a tunnel you are there. Good signage in both directions. We had just done a beautiful hike in the Maremma park (A4) and it was late for having lunch so we were ready to just grab a pizza. We pulled off the road uncertain it would even be open and not too hopeful as we had a bad experience with another Osteria in town. The owner Giorgio was soo nice. We started with the usual water and house wine (good!). Then we had Bruschetta with Porcini, then he said "Would you like more mushrooms?" Of course I had not failed to notice a display of a big bowl of fresh Porcini. "I will grill you two 'small ones'" he said. He then picked two with a 3-4 inch diameter top and grilled them in oil - incredible. Then pasta with more mushrooms, then lamb also grilled. Peg had the same pasta without the secondo. He gave us some cookies for dessert and we had coffee. 40 euros total!!!!! This meal was easily worth €100 or more. My only regret: he invited us to a weekly barbeque on Saturday night and we were leaving the next morning. I highly recommend the barbeque, I can only dream of how good the dinner would be!!! Put this on the list. I would say it's worth going out of the way for ... way out of the way. This review is the opinion of a Slow Travel member and not of slowtrav.com. |
