Foligno: Osteria Il Bacco Felice

Via Garibaldi 73 , Phone: 074.2341019

When: 2005

This unique enoteca offers some of the best food in the area, not strictly local dishes. [Owner] Salvatore accompanies them perfectly with wines.

We have encountered [owner] Salvatore [Denaro] catering many local events - which shows the high regard Italians have for his talent. However! He is very temperamental and tourists are often charged higher prices than Italians for the same meals. We had a most memorable meal here with a German friend last year; absolutely fantastic. This time the bill was amazingly low! Who knows why. Anyway, it's harder and harder to eat well in Umbria and the prices have gotten unreal. It's worth a chance.

A bit higher priced than the typical Umbrian restaurant, but excellent food.

It is always exciting to eat at a restaurant where the owner is truly passionate about what he does. This is clearly the case at Il Bacco Felice. You don't order at this restaurant. The owner, Salvatore Denaro, brings out whatever has been created in the kitchen that day. If I remember correctly, he may give you a choice between 2 things for some courses. Although more expensive than most Umbrian restaurants, the food and the wine recommended by Salvatore was excellent and unique.
