Wonderful food, less than stellar service in the center of Assisi

I am giving this restaurant a positive review based on the food--which was some of the best we had in this area. The service, however, left a lot to be desired. Piazzetta d'elle Erbe is a Slow Food restaurant centrally located in the heart of Assisi, right off the main piazza. The food is not typical Umbrian cuisine, a bit more novelle, but every dish we had was excellent and beautifully presented. I had a primi of smoked duck breast with fennel and orange, and my husband a version of caprese which was multi-layers of mozzerella di bufala layered with semi-dry tomatoes instead of the usual fresh. It was out-of this world! For main I had a pesto made with greenbeans and almonds along with the traditional basil; my spouse had a light-as-a-feather lasagne verdue.

As to the service issue---our party of five was basically ignored in favor of other parties around us who were being served in a timely manner. One table of two young women was getting very attentive service from our young and unfriendly waiter, while we were snubbed. In fact, although we really wanted desserts (which looked fantastic), we ended up leaving without it because we had already waited 45 minutes just to get his attention to clear our plates. Even so, I would try this place again for the great food, and hopefully a different waiter!

Dinner for five, with an €18 bottle of Montefalco Rosso, two waters, four primi and five secondi--but no dessert!-- was €108, so quite reasonable.
