Fiumaretta di Ameglia: Paracucchi Locanda dell'Angelo

60 Viale XXV Aprile , Phone: 0187-64391 or 64392

When: 2002

Very good food in a restaurant that also runs weeklong cooking classes during certain periods. About a half-mile from the archeological site of Luni.

Directions: On the Sarzana-Marinella provincial road, about 4.5 kms SE of Ameglia and on the opposite side of the Magra River from Ameglia.

The food is said to be even better when owner/Chef Stefano Paracucchi, who also cooks in Paris, is in residence. But I found it very good. Dinner for one, including antipasto, primo, secondo and a bottle of one of the less expensive local wines, was 67 euros in April 2002. Reservations required. Dining room does not open for dinner until 8 p.m.

The inn also has 35 hotel rooms and a pool. The rooms, which I looked at, are nice but the view is a non-exceptional one of the surrounding flat coastal land. You do not see the sea from here. The nearby archeological site of Luni, an ancient Roman settlement, is worth visiting but has exhibit signs in Italian only.
