Busy restaurant featuring simple, but very good food.

When things close up in Acqui Terme they really close up. We were late (9:30) for dinner one Monday evening and there was little still open in the town. We had driven past this restaurant many times (it was on the way to our B & B and located near the Jolly Blu Internet Café), we had just about given up on dinner but noticed La Tavernetta was still open. We parked the car on the street and went in.

The restaurant was full of locals enjoying a dinner out. The main dining room was huge and most of the tables were full. There was a large back room that on the night we were there seemed to be full of teenagers celebrating something. There parents/chaperones were smart and were enjoying their dinner in the front of the restaurant. Happily we were seated well away from the teenagers, although it was interesting for us to watch their antics.

The menu was in Italian with no English – almost redundant to say here in Acqui Terme. Most people seemed to be ordering pizza but there were some pastas, and other secondi on the menu. I ordered a calzone and Paul thought that he had ordered a pasta dish with beef and peppers. What he received was a sizzling dish full of strips of tender beef, peppers, and onions – almost like a fajita back home.

The food was excellent and the portions large. The bill for our meals, including a litre of wine and a bottle of mineral water came to 26 euro.
