L'Aquila: Ristorante Aquila

Via San Flaviano , Phone: 0862.22010

Closing day: Wednesday dinner, Thursday lunch

When: 2003

Consistently the tastiest food I've ever had.

Directions: 20 meters off the main square (Piazza Duomo)

I've been to this restaurant many, many times. I have never once been disappointed. It's a family run business; mother and daughter-in-law cook while father and son handle the customers.

Their menu changes seasonally, but one item that I believe is always available, and is unbelievably fantastic, is their porcini risotto. You can also choose to have pasta made in the same preparation. Other knock-outs: pasta with an almond pesto (maltagliate con pesto di mandorle), a dish I can only describe as a deeply braised pot-roast (called brasato), and their antipasto dello chef (chef's choice, with many plates) is enough for your entire meal. Average price per person for dinner is 30-35 euro. And you will leave with your pants unbuttoned. Ristorante Aquila
