Great ravioli and antipasti in very freindly surroundings.

Directions: Close to the center of Lanciano, near the Piazza Plebiscito

We ate a late lunch here on a Sunday afternoon, when it appeared that just about anywhere else was closed. There are three small dining rooms. We were led to the back one that was thankfully air conditioned on this very warm afternoon.

The service and friendliness of the owner and our waitress were outstanding. Neither spoke English but we managed fine with our basic Italian and their kind patience.

We had a variety of Abruzzo antipasti (cold cuts, several cheeses, sausages, beans, fruit) followed by great ravioli in a spicy tomato based sauce with a scent of saffron. They were filled with ricotta and herbs, and topped with a cheese that I'm not familar with, but it tasted like a sweet romano. We had more cold refreshing melon and gelato for dessert and the house red wine with dinner. The price for everything was very reasonable in the €25 range with food, water, wine, coperto.

The town has a great tourist office for Lanciano and all of Abruzzo. The town is the home of the "Miracolo Eucaristo" in the church of San Francesco. Read the story in the church and draw your own conclusions.
