Well known restaurant with a view, good food and rather surly service.

The restaurant we were looking for on this street was closed on Wednesdays, so we ended up at Da Gemma's because I thought I had read a good review of it somewhere.

It was not very crowded at 1 pm, the view was lovely and they had a large antipasti buffet that looked good so we gave it a try. This restaurant has been in business for 55 years and was plastered with pictures of customers over the years, many of them famous. The waiter's attitude seemed as if he were tired of tourists and he was not very friendly. He tried to hurry our decision making and I think was surprised when we didn't order just a pizza.

That being said, the antipasti buffet was quite good with a large and tasty selection of vegetables, salads, squid, etc. You could make an entire meal out of the buffet. Jim did have a good pizza with sausage and spinach and I had the house special frutti de mare that was very good and loaded with seafood. The waiter did show a table full of Italians this dish with some pride as he passed them on the way to serving me. The house wine was fine and the meal was in the moderate range for all the food we ordered.

It was a a good meal but with all the restaurants to choose from in Capri, I am not sure I would return.
