A great stop of you're traveling between Piemonte and Liguria. Friendly trattoria with excellent food.

Directions: Masone is an exit off the A26 highway between Genova and Ovada. Get off the highway, and drive down the main street. The restaurant is on the left, a building with yellow awning across from a supermarket. Look carefully, as the sign is tiny.

We loved this little trattoria in a small town off the highway. It's run by an extended family, with everyone from grandpa to a young grandaughter helping out. There's no written menu, you discuss the daily choices.

We started by sharing an salad of polpo, octopus. It was fork-tender slices of warm octopus with lots of vegetables in a light dressing. Delicious, fresh flavors. A plate of thin egg noodles topped with rich pesto, with green beans and a few slices of potato in the Ligurian tradition, was quite tasty. Ravioli topped in a light meat sauce with pine nuts was excellent. We shared a slice of hazlenut cake for dessert. My glass of wine came from an unlabeled bottle, and was outstanding.

Lunch for two (one antipasto, 2 primi, 1 dolce, a glass of wine, water and coffee) was €39.
