A superb lunch (or dinner) stop for those en route from Fiumicino airport to Tuscany or Umbria.

Directions: About five minutes off the Magliano Sabina exit on A1. Get off the exit and follow the signs to the restaurant.

Travelers arriving at Rome's Fiumicino airport often look for a place to stop and get a decent meal en route to their destinations in Tuscany or Umbria. We normally figure on one and a half to two hours after our flight arrives to get our luggage and rental car. Our most recent flight arrived at 10:30 and we were out of the airport two hours later en route to our destination in Pieve San Nicolo, just outside Assisi. While planning our trip, we looked in the area about halfway up and noted in the Michelin Red Guide the Ristorante Degli Angeli in Magliano Sabina. The restaurant is only a few minutes off the Magliano Sabino exit of A1 and is a very worthy stop, whether you're en route from the airport or simply happen to be in the area.

It's an elegant restaurant with fine food, excellent service, and outstanding views of the valley below. We hadn't expected much more than a tasty feeding. It turned out to be one of the best meals of our trip. We began with cold antipasti, followed by stringozzi, deep fried potatoes (almost like chips, but much better), lamb chops, and a salad of oranges and olives, one dessert, and two espressos. The bill came to 43 euros.

Our waitress spoke English and was most accommodating. We couldn't have been more pleased. For images, see their website.

A great find that we will certainly go back to and recommend to others.
