Decent place to eat on the way to the top of Mt. Vesuvius. Nice outdoor terrace. Somewhat limited menu, but very friendly staff.

Directions: On the road up to the top of Mt. Vesuvius, just a couple of miles before you reach the top.

We stopped at this restaurant on the way to the top of Mt. Vesuvius (Vesuvio). The restaurant is about three kilometers from what seems to be the park information office, about six kilometers from the top of the volcano. It's a good place to stop before or after visiting Mt. Vesuvius.

We arrived about 12:30 pm. The staff was still cleaning off their outdoor terrace, but we waited a few minutes and then sat outside in the sun to relax and eat. They did end up waiting on us earlier than their normal 1 pm opening time for lunch. The big outdoor terrace was very pleasant.

The menu was all in Italian and quite limited (maybe four options for each course), but we had a good meal. The staff spoke just a little English but they were pleasant and very polite. Charley had some kind of ravioli and I had some kind of pasta. Kelly had just her normal fallback order: spaghetti with butter (con burro). We had a small bottle of wine and little frozen ice cream desserts. It was a pleasant hour or so in the sunshine.

Since we had started our meal a bit early and skipped a couple of the courses, we arrived at Mt. Vesuvius while most other visitors were eating lunch. The tour guides must have been at lunch too, but we were able to walk up to the volcano alone with a couple of other visitors and had the place pretty much to ourselves. As we were walking down, I saw hundreds of schoolkids and tourists walking up. I was glad we had timed our visit the way we did.

Our meal at Ristorante Kona was €46 for the three of us.
