Open for lunch and dinner, inexpensive and has earlier opening hours than most. For an early dinner, this is the place. Very friendly and pleasing service.

Directions: On the left hand side of Via San Matteo as you walk up towards the center of the town, half way up.

I keep going back to this delicious and friendly restaurant and my sister and I eat there most nights we are in San Gimignano. Downstairs is called La Brasserie and is more casual and opens early. Upstairs has a more formal menu and has regular Italian hours. We usually end up there after a day sight seeing in Certaldo, Siena or the neighbouring towns. We usually eat early, like before 6pm and have pasta dishes, cooked vegetables and simple meat dishes. Very clean, very friendly, beautifully prepared food. It is very inexpensive.

When it is closed on Thursday we have pizza from further up Via San Matteo on the other side of the street. You can buy it "per portare via", and take it away back to your hotel. It comes in the standard take away pizza box. There is also a little grocery store on the same side as the pizzeria for yoghurt and other food goodies.
